Cafe Floriani

Cafe Floriani Traditional Characters – Ageless Senario Commedia dell’ Arte’ secondary school production.

Created as a demonstration of the traditional Italian theatre style Commedia dell’Arte, Cafe Floriani explores ageless concepts of commerce, competition and greed. The performance encompasses a number of masked characters interacting and demonstrating the movement skills and joy required to capture the traditional characters and Commedia scenarios.

Cafe Floriani has been refined and produced for the High School audience as a demonstrative performance specialising in teaching the characters and interactions of Commedia dell’ Arte. The actors are aware of their audience and hope to accurately convey the traditional characters including stance, movement and behaviours during the performance.

One of the reasons Cafe Floriani has been so successful year after year is that teachers recognise the performance as an excellent example of Commedia, which gives the student an immediate understanding of the characters and confidence to create for themselves. Students are able to see the historical texts that they have studied come to life and be demonstrated clearly.

Take advantage of the energy generated during the show and channel it into a fun, exciting and educational student workshop. Led by the cast, students will get ‘hands-on’ and extend the learning.
